Maputo, 9 Apr (AIM) – A group of Islamist terrorists on Saturday invaded the Nairoto administrative post, Montepuez district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, after forcing the displacement of some residents of Ancuabe district.
According to local sources, cited by the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the attack took place in Namoro village, after a group of terrorists, carrying firearms, arrived in the region causing panic among the population. However, there is no report of fatalities.
“We were in our houses as usual, but suddenly we heard gunshots. We all ran in search of safer places. The shooting left people in despair and they began to flee. The criminals seized some of the population’s goods, particularly foodstuffs, but no military contingent was deployed”, a source said.
This is the second time in less than three months that terrorists have attacked Namoro, forcing the population to flee. In Ancuabe district, the population that has not yet left their villages remains on high alert, following reports of terrorist movements or attacks in some areas far from the district headquarters and the positions of the Mozambican forces and their Rwandan allies.
