Carregamento de gas natural na bacia do Rovuma, província de Cabo Delgado em Moçambique, do empreendimento Coral Sul
Maputo, 9 Apr (AIM) – The Mozambican government has approved the development plan for the Coral Norte project located in Area Four of the Rovuma Basin, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado province, which should allow the production of 3.5 million tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) per year.
The Italian energy company ENI has already been operating the Coral Sul Floating LNG platform since November 2022. It has been exporting around one shipment of LNG per week and last week it reached the landmark of the 100th shipment of LNG.
The Coral Norte project is also a floating platform. Budgeted at 7.2 billion dollars, the Coral Norte Platform project could start production in the second quarter of 2028 and is expected to operate for 30 years.
According to the government spokesperson and Minister of State Administration, Inocêncio Impissa, speaking on Tuesday to reporters, in Maputo, at the end of a meeting of the Council of Ministers (Cabinet), the Coral Norte FLNG will have six production wells.
“This is the second project led by Italian oil company ENI, which will be deployed in the deep waters of the Rovuma Basin, and will be anchored 10 kilometers from the Coral Sul field, where the first FLNG is installed”, he said.
The Coral Sul FLNG is operated by Eni, representing Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), a consortium which also includes ExxonMobil and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and which holds 70 per cent of the shares. The other 30% are held equally by Mozambique’s own National Hydrocarbon Company (ENH), Galp of Portugal and Kogas of South Korea.
