Maputo, 11 Apr (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Thursday appointed Julio dos Santos Jane as the new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces (FADM).
He also promoted Jane from the rank of Major-General to that of General of the Army.
Under the previous president, Filipe Nyusi, Jane had held the posts of General Commander of the Police (PRM), and General Director of the Intelligence and Security Service (SISE).
Jane replaces Admiral Joaquim Mangrasse at the head of the FADM. Mangrasse had held this position since March 2021.
Jane was relieved of his SISE duties in May 2022, and since then he has been on the reserve list.
