Maputo, 19 Jun (AIM) – Mozambique’s Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) has reduced the prices of the main liquid fuels by up to eight per cent, taking effect as of Thursday.
The sharpest reduction is for diesel. The price of diesel drops from 86.79 to 79.99 meticais a litre (from 1.36 to 1.24 US dollars, at the current exchange rate). This is a decline of almost eight per cent.
The price of a litre of petrol falls from 85.82 to 83.57 meticais, a decline of 2.6 per cent. A litre of kerosene, which used to cost 69.35 meticais, now costs 66.86 meticais – a fall of 3.6 per cent.
The price of Vehicular Natural Gas (CNG) fell from the previous 42.4 meticais per litre equivalent to 41.11 meticais per litre equivalent, a decline of three per cent. The price of LPG cooking gas remains unchanged at 86.05 meticais per kilo.
In a statement, ARENE explained the fall in prices by the fact that the international market has been registering “a reduction in the price of a barrel of crude oil in recent months, which contributes to the formation of the Base Price of petroleum products in Mozambique”.
ARENE guarantees that it will continue to monitor prices on the national and international markets and the main variables that impact on the process of calculating prices.
