Maputo, 1 Sep (AIM) – The number of fatal victims of terrorist attacks last week, in Muidumbe district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, has risen to five, after local residents discovered three more corpses on Sunday
The first two victims had been found in their homes, after they were unable to flee into the bush or to the neighboring village of Mandava, as others did earlier when they became aware of the terrorists’ presence.
According to local sources, cited by the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, in addition to the three bodies found on Sunday, two other people were wounded by bullets. During the incursion, around 20 houses and food supplies were destroyed after the terrorists set them on fire.
As a result of the insecurity, other villages near Mapate also panicked and the population went into hiding “and on Tuesday, some activities were temporarily suspended.”
The Islamic State terrorist group, through its media channels, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that its militants killed four people and burned around 30 houses.
