Maputo, 2 May (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has guaranteed that his government is committed to social justice, and strengthening labor dignity because “workers are an engine of development.”
According to Chapo, in a message addressing Mozambican workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, celebrated on 1 May, this day represents the historical trajectory of the trade union movement in defending workers’ rights and promoting social dialogue among various stakeholders.
“Labor Day should be understood as an occasion to value the efforts of all those who, every day, contribute to the growth of the national economy and to collective well-being”, he said.
Chapo praised workers in the public and private sectors, as well as those working in the informal economy, for their “commitment, resilience, and contribution to the gradual recovery of the national economy.”
According to the President, despite the progress achieved, there is a persistence of structural challenges, particularly concerning the cost of living, unemployment, the need for better wages, the strengthening of social protection, and the improvement of workplace safety conditions.
“The government remains firmly committed to implementing policies that value workers, stimulate investment, and ensure that economic growth translates into better living conditions for all Mozambicans”, declared Chapo, in his message.
He also called for national unity, increased productivity, and a strengthened spirit of solidarity in “building a more just, prosperous, and cohesive country, sending a message of appreciation to all workers, both within and outside the national territory.”
