Maputo, 15 Jun – The governments of Mozambique and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have expressed their willingness to boost bilateral relations to “a new strategic level”, focused on key sectors to drive economic growth and sustainable development.
The willingness was expressed by President Daniel Chapo and his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during a telephone call.
According to a statement, during the call, both Presidents reviewed the long-standing relations of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Maputo and Abu Dhabi.
They also expressed a mutual desire to intensify partnerships in vital sectors, including trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, and sustainable development.
This high-level dialogue occurs as Mozambique seeks to secure international alliances to boost its economic transformation. Meanwhile, the UAE continues to strengthen its position and influence across the African continent through targeted investments and development programmes.
“Chapo expressed the gratitude of the Mozambican people and Government for the UAE’s continuous support over the years, underscoring its contribution to the nation’s socio- economic progress. He specifically praised Abu Dhabi’s swift solidarity during the recent floods that hit several regions in the country, noting that the UAE’s humanitarian aid and relief initiatives were crucial for the affected populations”, reads the document.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international matters, “midst increasingly complex global economic and geopolitical challenges. They emphasized the vital importance of dialogue, multilateral cooperation, and the promotion of global peace and stability.”
Diplomatic analysts regard the current state of relations between Mozambique and the UAE as one of the most dynamic chapters in Mozambican diplomacy, transitioning from a traditional diplomatic relationship into a robust economic partnership built on mutual trust and shared progress.
