Maputo, 2 Jul (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to female economic empowerment with the implantation of the Pro-Mulher Fund, which is aimed at empowering local women entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Speaking on Wednesday at a meeting with a group of businesswomen from the northern province of Cabo Delgado, the new Fund will operate under a simplified credit access model, modeled after the existing Local Economic Development Fund (FDEL).
Chapo explained that the instrument will mirror the philosophy of the FDEL—a public mechanism created to fund district-level economic development, foster entrepreneurship, and create jobs.
“With the Pro-Mulher initiative, the government aims to establish a credit line specifically tailored to the unique needs of women entrepreneurs. The fund also acts as a reinforcement of the Empodera program, launched last year by the First Lady, and forms a key pillar of the government’s broader strategy to combat poverty and reduce gender inequality through targeted female entrepreneurship”, he said.
The President explained that access to the Pro-Mulher Fund will be straightforward and stripped of heavy bureaucracy, “this measure aims to dismantle the traditional financial barriers that have long restricted women from accessing formal credit in rural and peri-urban areas.”
Chapo added that the government’s strategy is “focused on praising women for their proven management capacity within families, professional spheres, and public administration.”
“This trust reflects not only in financial inclusion but also in leadership roles”, he added.
