Maputo, 22 Apr (AIM) – The peasant militia known as “naparamas” have killed two Islamist terrorists in Ancuabe district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, according to Monday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique.”
The terrorists were caught, on Wednesday and Thursday, when they raided communities of Nanua A, which is about 7 kilometers from Ancuabe town, and Mopuanha, along the N380 road that links the locality of Salaué (Silva Macua) to that of Oasse (in Mocímboa da Praia district).
In Nanua A, the terrorists destroyed infrastructure and looted property, obliging local residents to flee to Ancuabe town
In a phone interview with the Zumbo FM radio station, the Mopuanha village secretary, Matares Abudo, confirmed the attack which took place between 18.00 and 19.00. He put the number of terrorists at 50.
He said that apparently, the terrorists did not intend to kill civilians, but rather to steal food.
In a publication on Saturday night, the Islamic State’s propaganda media claimed responsibility for the attack and, without mentioning casualties, claimed that the jihadists had burnt down classrooms and a church
One of the local sources cited by “Carta de Mocambique”, said that in Mopuanha, they did not kill anybody, but “They stole a lot of things from the stalls like rice, flour and soft drinks”.
According to other sources, the terrorists also destroyed significant quantities of cigarettes and alcoholic drinks that were on sale in the shops.
