Maputo, 23 May (AIM) – Mozambican Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane has condemned last Sunday’s abortive coup d’etat in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to Maleiane, who was speaking to reporters, on Wednesday, in the southern district of Boane, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Coordinating Council of the government’s publicly-owned Information Office (Gabinfo), “naturally, we condemn any coup attempt and the government can only react by condemning this act.
It was found that Christian Malanga, leader of plotters, and two American associates, Cole Ducey and Benjamin Polun, had opened three Mozambican companies in 2022, namely Bantu Mining, Global Solutions Mozambique and CCB Mining Solutions. These companies exist on paper, and their statutes were published in the official gazette, the “Boletim da Republica”.
But there is no sign that these companies are anything more than shells. No mining licences have been issued for any of them.
Maleiane said the coup plot had nothing to do with Mozambique. “What happened is a matter for the Democratic Republic of Congo, and we only have to regret what happened”, he said.
Regarding the existence of companies opened by the plotters in Mozambique, the Prime Minister said “the country has many investors, but we don’t follow their private lives.”
According to Maleiane, the investors are obliged to be registered and to follow Mozambique’s commercial rules, but “what they do in the country where the money comes from, that’s not our business.”
