Empresarios ucranianos querem investir na agricultura em Mocambique
Maputo, 23 Jul (AIM) – The Norwegian government has disbursed 3.3 million dollars to the World Food Programme (WFP) to strengthen food systems adapted to climate change and to expand school feeding programmes in six districts of the southern Mozambican provinces of Gaza and Inhambane.
According to Norway’s ambassador, Haakon Gram-Johannessen, cited in a WFP release document, “food security and climate resilience and adaptation are a key priority in the cooperation between Norway and Mozambique.”
In coordination with the Mozambican authorities, the WFP will support 500 smallholder farmers to diversify agricultural production and 17,000 primary school children will have greater access to nutritious meals to improve school attendance.
“Norway is honored to be partnering with one of the most trusted UN agencies in strengthening much-needed food and nutrition security, including school feeding programmes in this part of Mozambique that is particularly vulnerable to the climate”, reads the release.
“The aim of the project is to improve the food and nutrition security of smallholder farmers and their families and to support equitable access to basic education and school feeding programmes in areas where access to education is poor due to food insecurity”, the note says.
According to the document, the increase in integrated climate risk management programming, together with support for the agricultural market, benefits both the farmers who supply fresh produce to schools and the school children and their families, who will receive nutritious meals.
Since 2020, Norway has contributed 14 million dollars to WFP operations in Mozambique.
