Maputo, 19 Aug (AIM) – The Integrated Agency for the Development of Northern Mozambique (ADIN) has granted 14,000 bags of cement to 950 households who were victims of Islamist terrorism in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
The cement, which will benefit households resettled in Marocane village in Ancuabe district, will be used to rehabilitate 500 homes, as part of the programme to normalize and rebuild the lives of families displaced by terrorist actions in the province.
According to ADIN spokesperson, Jacinto Loureiro, speaking to reporters, on Saturday, the distribution of this material is aimed at building robust houses in order to guarantee resilience in the event of extreme events as well as the prevention of respiratory diseases.
“The cement we delivered today aims at improving the interior of the houses, both the floors and the balconies. As you know, the floors were made of mixed earth and this creates dust. That’s why the children always get the flu, so we had to take up the people’s request to have the inside of the houses paved as well”, he said.
Loureiro explained that the support to the households is a result of cooperation between ADIN, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
For his part, the governor of Cabo Delgado, Valigy Tauabo, urged the population to use the cement as intended.
“We would like to urge all the beneficiaries of the cement to use it to improve their homes in accordance with the request they made to the authorities and our partners”, he said.
The representative of the beneficiaries, Samo Amisse, expressed his gratitude and guaranteed that the beneficiaries will make good use of the cement.
