Maputo, 19 Mar (AIM) – Mozambique’s Confederation of Business Associations (CTA) on Wednesday launched a new phase of strategic cooperation between the Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) in the tourism sector.
At a meeting in Maputo between the CTA and the CPLP Business Confederation, the CTA representative, Abdul Sarimo, said tourism remains one of the sectors with the greatest capacity to generate employment and stimulate the national economy since “the country has abundant natural resources, but we need to invest in training and service quality to ensure competitiveness and attract more visitors.”
According to Abdula, the success of strategies depends on greater coordination between the public and private sectors, as well as strengthening the technical skills of the national workforce, with a special focus on youth. “Good service encourages repeat visits and promotes the destination, while a bad experience can compromise all promotional efforts”, he said.
For her part, Berta Montalvão, vice-president of the CPLP Business Confederation, the organization’s mission in Mozambique is aimed at creating solid bridges between companies and institutions.
“The Portuguese language is an element that unites us, but it is fundamental to transform this connection into concrete economic results, through the empowerment of companies and the appreciation of professionals in the sector”, she said.
According to Montalvão, cooperation is organized around three main axes: infrastructure development, improvement of service quality, and the strengthening of human capital.
During its three days of work in Mozambique, the delegation from the CPLP Business Confederation will hold meetings with various institutions, with a view to identifying specific needs and defining a joint action plan that meets the challenges of the tourism sector.
