Maputo, 25 Oct (AIM) – The Chinese company Great Wall Mining, which is exploiting the heavy mineral sands of Inhassunge district, in the central Mozambican province of Zambézia, has disbursed 18 million meticais (about 281,000 dollars, at the current exchange rate) for the rehabilitation of the road between Olinda and Chirimane.
This stretch of road, which had been destroyed by natural disasters, was impassable for seven years and now it will benefit over 50,000 people in Inhassunge.
According to the Inhassunge district administrator, Bernardo Cutane, cited in Wednesday’s issue of the Maputo daily “Notícias”, the road rehabilitation by the Chinese company is part of its social and corporate responsibility.
He said that the road will allow the speedy transport of goods, as well as helping the development of rural areas that were isolated for years.
For his part, Penha Zhang, a representative of Great Wall Mining, said the road rehabilitation constitutes an immediate answer to the letter sent by the district administration on requalification of the road, which is crucial for residents of Olinda, Chirimane and Inhassunge town.
