Maputo, 29 Jul (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said on Saturday that the entry of the company CFM-Logistics into the maritime operations of the northern port of Nacala represents the participation of Mozambicans in the value chain of the petroleum and gas sector.
Nyusi was speaking in Nacala at the official launch ceremony of the maritime operations of CFM-Logistics, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mozambican rail and port company, CFM.
“These activities are an unequivocal signal of the participations of Mozambicans in the petroleum and gas value chain, and the consequent retention of value inside the country”, he declared.
Nyusi regarded this as proof that Mozambican companies can respond to the demands of petroleum operators who have strict selection criteria.
CFM-Logistics, he added, also demonstrates job creation and the valuing of local labour.
“We are witnessing today the expression of local content with the country’s own means and equipment, with Mozambican workers and with economic activities that can contribute to the public accounts”, the President said. “We are witnessing the successful goal of generating possible linkages with other companies such as fuel suppliers, ship repair, and storage firms, with effects on employment, added value and economic growth”.
Nyusi praised the introduction of two new, state-of-the-art tugs which will help the activities of CFM-Logistics.
“Oil tankers did not use to stop here because of the lack of safety conditions. We did not have tugs in good condition”, he said. “We had to hire a tug from Dar es Salaam”.
“But what we are seeing now, with these tugs, is state-of-the-art equipment”, he declared.
Nyusi challenged CFM-Logistics “to think big” and to become a regional, continental and global reference point. He hoped that the tugs would soon earn money that pays back the investment of more than 300 million dollars made in them.
