Maputo, 23 Aug (AIM) – The Coral Sul floating platform off the coast of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, which is operated by the Italian energy company ENI, has produced five million tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), since it started operating in November 2022.
The destination of the gas produced by this platform are the European and Asian markets.
According to an ENI statement, published in Friday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, this amount represents “a significant milestone for the project, and represents not only a major technical and operational achievement, but also a testament to the dedication, commitment and collaboration of the entire team and partners.”
The note explains that since production began, 70 shipments of LNG and 10 of Condensate Gas so far have been exported “making a significant contribution to the country’s economic growth.”
“Coral South is a benchmark project for the industry and has placed Mozambique among the global LNG producers, laying the foundations for a transformational change in the country through the development of gas resources that contribute to a fair and sustainable energy transition”, reads the statement.
According to Marica Calabrese, General Manager of Eni Rovuma Basin, cited in the document, this achievement reinforces “our commitment to providing exceptional value to the country. We will continue to work with our partners and the Government of Mozambique to ensure the value of Mozambique’s vast gas resources through the development of additional gas projects.”
“As we celebrate this milestone, we acknowledge the importance of remaining focused on safety, the environment and operational excellence”, she said.
The consortium operating the Coral Sul platform includes, in addition to ENI, the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the American ExxonMobil, the Portuguese GALP, the South Korean KOGAS and the Mozambican National Hydrocarbon Company (ENH).
