Chifunde (Mozambique), 30 Aug (AIM) – Daniel Chapo, the candidate of Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party for the presidential election scheduled for 9 October, on Thursday, promised to favor investment in education and health if he wins.
Speaking at an election rally in Chifunde district, in the central province of Tete, Chapo said that “without quality education and health, citizens have no chance of participating and actively contributing to development. There must be serious and methodical investment in these two crucial areas.”
“We have to turn our attention to man”, he declared “It’s not possible to develop Mozambique without looking at the human factor. Let’s look after the health of our population. Let’s educate our population well”.
Chapo claimed that, in the education sector, it is important to introduce essential subjects for building citizenship, such as civic and patriotic education, to ensure the transmission of Mozambican history and what freedom has cost, so that society can value the achievements made over time.
Chapo also wanted schools to teach Ethics and Morals, to enable society to live within socially accepted standards and away from practices that are out of line with the ethical and moral principles that characterize a healthy society.
He explained that building a society that is geared towards promoting the common good is a crucial condition for Mozambique’s development.
The Frelimo strategy, he added, also envisages improving teacher training and qualification mechanisms, in line with best practices, in order to guarantee relevant quality education, without neglecting to motivate teachers through incentives to fulfill their task with zeal and dedication.
With regard to health care, Chapo said that he is committed to making the National Health System more efficient in its actions at the service of citizens.
