
Maputo, 5 Nov (AIM) – The “Decide” Electoral Platform, a prominent Mozambican NGO, claims that at least seven people were shot dead by Police on Wednesday during the demonstrations called by the presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane in order to protest against the allegedly fraudulent results of elections held on 9 October.
The mass demonstrations have been taking place across the country since 21 October. Wednesday was the beginning of the “fourth moment of phase four”, which Mondlane called “4X4.”
According to the organization’s report, the fatalities, during the so-called 4X4 phase, took place in the northern province of Nampula and the southern province of Maputo.
The report also pointed out that “22 people were shot during demonstrations. 14 were shot in Nampula province, seven in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, and one in Maputo province.”
“A further seven people were detained. Three were detained in Tete, Three in the central province of Manica, and one in Nampula”, reads the report.
