Presidente da República, Daniel Chapo, recebe em audiência delegação do Banco Mundial, chefiada pelo director da instituição em Moçambique, Fily Sissoko
Maputo, 23 Feb (AIM) – The World Bank has pledged to disburse 10 billion US dollars to support Mozambican public and private investments in the period 2026-2031.
The World Bank has committed, within this new partnership framework, to disburse six billion dollars for public investment, while four billion dollars will be channeled to the private sector.
The announcement was made on Monday, after a working meeting between Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, and a World Bank delegation, headed by divisional director Fily Sissoko.
According to Finance Minister Carla Louveira, who was speaking to reporters after the meeting, the partnership program between Mozambique and the World Bank was launched, based on a portfolio of 10 billion US dollars.
The minister also revealed that the World Bank is also developing a partnership framework with the government valued at 921 million dollars, aimed at “ensuring macro-fiscal consolidation and supporting the resumption of the country’s economic growth, which is presenting a very positive outlook.”
“In addition to these initiatives, there are two additional lines of funding. The first is the resilience and prevention line, budgeted at 450 million dollars for the next three years. The second is the emergency line, named REPAIR (Regional Emergency Preparedness and Access to Inclusive Recovery Programme), worth 20 million dollars, already disbursed, intended to finance emergency actions in the country’s relief agency and health sector, especially for the acquisition of food, medicines, and emergency health products”, she said.
According to Louveira, the signing of this framework marks the beginning of a period of effective project execution in various strategic sectors of the country, with an impact on economic and social development.
For his part, the World Bank’s division director Fily Sissoko, stressed the importance of swift project execution, saying that “at the sector level, it is fundamental to ensure compliance with World Bank procurement procedures, so that execution is effective and swift in all actions foreseen within this 2026-2031 partnership framework.”
