Chimoio (Mozambique), 1 Jun (AIM) – Daniel Chapo, the candidate of Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party for the presidential election scheduled for 9 October, has pledged that one of his commitments for governance is the fight against corruption.
Speaking on Friday in Chimoio, capital of the central province of Manica, where President Filipe Nyusi presented him to the public, Chapo stressed that, if he wins the election, he will be implacable against all acts of corruption, which retard the country’s development.
Corruption, he declared, is an evil which stains the good image of governance, and has a directly negative impact on citizens’ lives.
Other key elements of his programme for governance, he said, would be rehabilitating and improving public infrastructures, and ensuring good quality health services.
“We know that the public needs clean drinking water, more health units, better conditions of education, and better access roads”, said Chapo. “These problems can only be solved with the involvement of all Mozambicans. Our governance will be inclusive”.
He stressed that national unity is fundamental for the growth of Mozambique. It was through national unity that any blockage to development could be removed.
“Let us be united and fight against all the evils that undermine our progress”, urged Chapo. “Let us work the land, increase agricultural production and eliminate outside dependence. Let us also industrialise the country and create more jobs for young people”.
